United States Army Reserves 63rd Regional
Our customers at Camp Pendleton, California referred Enviremedial Services, Inc. to the US Army Reserves. After initial contact with USAR personnel, we performed a demonstration of our management services at Camp Pendleton. The USAR personnel we impressed with our level of service and with our waste minimization capabilities.
Enviremedial Services, Inc. was awarded a contract in October 2004 to manage the 37 oil water separator sites controlled by the US Army Reserves. This contract differs from our other on-site customers because the sites are located throughout California, Arizona and Nevada. Rather than have personnel permanently staged on-site, ESI personnel travel site-to-site to manage the separators.
Because we are not processing and reusing the sediment on-site, ESI personnel containerize and leave the sediment at the facility's 90-day yard. The financial and environmental savings are dramatic in this situation as they are for our on-site customers. For example, with traditional pumping services, USAR was hauling off the entire contents of the OWS by the truckload. With ESI's recycling process, only the minor amounts of sediment are hauled off by the waste contractor. Typically, this is less than 15% of the capacity of the OWS.
While servicing the separators, ESI inspects and makes minor repairs to the unit. Any major repairs needed are reported to the USAR and handled through the usual contracting methods.
ESI provides USAR with advance monthly schedules and contacts each site prior to their arrival. USAR personnel receive monthly reports detailing the disposition of the water, oil, and sediment at each site.
By their own calculations US, Army Reserves saved $180,000 and reduced waste 83% in the first year of their contract with ESI.
